Davis Station was named after Captain John K Davis who mastered ships in expeditions of Ernest Shackleton and Douglas Mawson. The station is a valuable staging base for scientific activity in the region.
This is the fourth coin in the Australian Antarctic Territory (AAT) Series and commemorates 50 years of operations at Davis Station. The reverse design shows some of the station territory with the ice-breaker ship Krista Dan a vessel with much Antarctic history in the foreground.
The 99.9% 1oz silver coin is housed encapsulated in a dark blue leatherette hinged-lid presentation case accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity and protected in a colourful cardboard outer box.
