The Royal Australian Mint commemorates one of Australia’s most significant remembrance traditions with the 2026 $2 The Last Post Coloured Uncirculated Coin.

Originally performed to signal the end of a soldier’s day, the Last Post has become a defining element of military funerals and commemorative services. On Anzac Day and Remembrance Day, it is traditionally sounded following the Ode of Remembrance and immediately before a minute’s silence, creating a poignant opportunity to reflect upon those who have served and sacrificed.

The coin design depicts a bugler sounding the Last Post before a war memorial at sundown. Musical staves and bars radiate outward like sound waves, while their arrangement evokes the arc of the setting sun. Musical rests incorporated into the design symbolise the silence that follows the playing of the Last Post and its association with fallen soldiers having gone to their final rest.

Memorial steps provide a strong foundation to the composition, while the inscriptions ‘The Last Post’ and ‘Remembrance’ follow the curve of the coin. Dusky oranges and deep purples within the central colour print capture the hues of twilight and reinforce the solemn atmosphere of the design.

Presented in Uncirculated condition, this edition features the ‘C’ mintmark and the designer’s initials ‘LA’ near the rim.

The release follows the Royal Australian Mint’s Dawn Service program from April 2026, continuing a series of coins recognising remembrance traditions that hold an important place in Australian life.
