On the 9th September 2015 Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II (QEII) will pass an historic milestone becoming the longest reigning monarch in British history. Queen Elizabeth II is Britain's 40th monarch since William the Conqueror was crowned in 1066. Her coronation took place on 2 June 1953 more than a year after the death of her father King George VI. She will bypass the previous record set by her great great grand mother Queen Victoria.
The Royal Australian Mint has struck a cupro-nickel 50 cent and silver $5 proof. Both coins feature Her Majesty's royal insignia the Coronation Spoon and a border consisting of some of the coronation oil's and ingredients alongside Australia's golden wattle.
