Mint records show that no half sovereigns were struck in 1918 although records for the next two years show that dies were prepared and half sovereigns were struck in Perth but never issued. 113 572 half sovereigns were struck in 1919 and 106 416 in 1920 using 1918 dies. The Pyx Jury objected to receiving coins dated with the wrong year and so the vast majority of the coins struck were not released into circulation and were re-melted.
